Having faced with a long ordeal, TI formed a resolute attitude towards his 366 days sentence in prison. During his interview with Sway Calloway as a part of “TI’s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning” which will air Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
Throughout the eight-episode series, TI helped at-risk teens to stay in the right path by showing them tough love. He also reflects back on his own actions that led to his arrest. Post-sentencing, TI gained a new perspective on paying for his mistake, and this was expressed in his hit “Dead and Gone”, featuring Justin Timberlake. The song is about Tip’s putting violence in his past.
Tip’s also determined to help the Road to Redemption kids although he couldn’t be with them 24/7. Tip told MTV:
“In speaking to them and checking up on them and speaking to the people who are around them every day, I get the understanding that they’re different people than they were before we did the show. That they think about what they do before they do it. And even if they choose to do the wrong thing… at least now, they have a conscience. Before, they didn’t even think about it. They didn’t feel bad about it. At least now if they do something wrong, they feel something. I think it started something. It’s not the end all, be all, but I think it inspired and promoted change and I think that’s what it was there to do.”
