Following the sudden news flash of the arrest of rapper and Atlanta lyricist T.I. for federal gun charges, the rapper has promoted his own reality show on MTV, “Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go”, premiering February 10. The reality show will follow the rapper as he tries to change the lives of seven kids, all of whom have different problems that are similar to his, and all of which will converge by the time he will do jail time this March 2009.

T.I.’s Road to Redemption

Right in the middle of his fame, rapper T.I. will find it fighting against himself as he tries to seek redemption by helping others with this reality show. The Grammy winner who faces jail time of up to 30 years for an arrest from his early life, luckily avoids that consequence when his lawyers work out a deal with the federal government if he completes 1000 hours of community service which will end by March and by that time, the sentence will be lessened, hopefully.

But in the meantime, T.I. will have to motivate these kids to have a better life, far from where he was and where he is right now. Each week, he will face these kids in a battle against themselves and against drugs, violence, and crime by showing them the consequences of what could happen if they ever follow the same path. One such scenario involves a high school drop out who turns to a life dealing with drugs. “We’re gonna help him whether he wants it or not.” He said right before he was introduced to the kid. With this, T.I. hopes to open the eyes of teens that turn to a life of crime and drugs and make them realize that in the end, it isn’t worth it.

It was when he was under house arrest following his arraignment and sentencing that T.I. had a grasp of an idea to create a reality show like this. When the judge sentenced him for 30 years, he held a press conference where the title of the show was part of the words he said that day. “We worked hard. It started in my house while I was in house arrest just as an idea. We didn’t even know if I would leave my house to be able to do it. It just manifested, and I’m proud of it,” he told MTV News.

Road to Redemption will not only chronicle T.I.’s life before his impending jail time but also his own means of helping these troubled teens to a road to redemption, as the title goes. Other highlights of the show would include the birth of his sixth child, the debut of his most ambitious album “Paper Trail”, doing 1000 hours of community service, and his continuing struggle to control his life while coming into terms that he will go to jail at this point of his celebrity life.
